Polymer Technologist Apprentice

Job Summary:

The Polymer Technologist Apprenticeship is an ‘earn and learn’ degree program that combines on-the-job training with academic study. This three-year program lead to a level 7 Bachelor of Science in Polymer Technology from Athlone Institute of Technology. You’ll learn the skills, knowledge, and behavior’s necessary for a successful career in polymer & plastics processing and beyond. You’ll also earn a salary as you study.

  • You will join a multi-disciplinary maintenance team.
  • You’ll receive a blend of on-the-job training and classroom training.
  • Must successfully complete schooling in allocated hours.
  • Maintain company & product reputation by complying with all necessary Quality & Safety regulations.
  • Self motivated.
  • Willingness to work, if required, on a 3 / 4 -cycle shift system.
  • A Polymer Processing Engineer is responsible for the efficient set up and operation of polymer processing lines in the fields of Injection Moulding, Blow Moulding or Extrusion moulding for the production of plastic components relevant to industry standards.
  • On completion the Apprentice will have a strong technical aptitude of processing characteristics & parameters for a broad range of polymer materials; they will work cross-functionally with Production Team Leaders/Moulding Managers/Quality/Toolroom /Maintenance Department/ Material Suppliers & external customers to address machine, material, mould, die or tooling issues, including complex tooling assembly & breakdown.

Qualifications & Key Attributes:

  • Applicants must have obtained a minimum of 5 O6 grades in their Leaving Certificate examination results or equivalent grades
  • These subjects must include:
    • Mathematics (Minimum: H7, O6, F2).
    • English or Irish (Minimum: O6, H7).
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and able to prioritise work.
  • Excellent work and attendance records.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

Process Technician

Job Summary

The Technician is responsible for, tool changes, monitoring and adjusting machine parameters, testing batch quality, and reporting equipment malfunctions.

The role

  • A Polymer Processing Technician is responsible for the setup of the tool
  • Have a strong technical aptitude of processing characteristics and parameters for a broad range of polymer materials
  • Required to work with Production Manager, Technical Manager, Shift Manger, Team Leaders, Quality and Toolroom personnel
  • Self-motivated
  • Maintain company & product reputation by complying with all necessary Quality & Safety regulations
  • Willingness to work 4 -cycle shift system

Qualifications & Key Attributes

  • Applicants must have obtained a minimum of 5 O6 grades in their Leaving Cert
  • Completed a Polymer Technology Apprenticeship qualification or equivalent qualification
  • Experience 2 years

Automation Technician

Job Summary

Assists with the efficient operation of the production area by ensuring automation equipment is in place and running properly.

Knowledge | Experience | Skills

Must possess mechanical aptitude. Ability to learn injection molding equipment, assembly processes, auxiliary equipment, decorating equipment, robots, and automation equipment. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Basic computer experience. Must be able to troubleshoot complex servo driven systems, vacuum circuits, and read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings. Knowledge of PLC controlled machines is preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understands and troubleshoots complex servo driven systems, vacuum circuits, and machines with the use of a digital multi-meter and machine documentation, mechanical drawings, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
  • Maintains and improves all existing automation equipment
  • Assists in production start-ups and changeovers as related to automation equipment. This may include but is not limited to: leveling and squaring automation and robot heads, centering mechanical components, moving automation from one press to another, making stroke adjustments, and changing robot heads and related mechanical components
  • Responsible for learning how to start automation, modify moving axes points, and make small programming changes on various types of robots and other equipment
  • Responsible for replacing or repairing mechanical and electrical components
  • Assists engineering and various departments with implementation and installation of new jobs

  • Quality Engineer

    Job Summary

    The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting all Quality aspects impacting the successful functioning of the manufacturing facility.
    He or She will report to the Quality Manager and will support the organization to achieve the quality objectives.

    Requirements

    • Third level qualification in Engineering, Polymer Science, or equivalent Manufacturing experience.
    • Experience in statistical analysis (Minitab) / SPC / validations.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and facilitation skills
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer within an Injection moulding or medical manufacturing environment.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Developing and implementing solutions to sustain and improve the QMS
    • Maintain and support compliance to ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 systems standards
    • Interface with Customers on new products, quality Issues and Process Qualifications
    • Develop and implement process control programs to ensure customer requirements are met
    • Carry out Process validations and qualification on products
    • Provides manufacturing support and Quality expertise in relation to Manufacturing issues and product disposition
    • Performing quality engineering analysis to identify strategies to prevent quality non- conformances and minimize risk
    • Co-ordinate NCR / CAPA Process to ensure timely resolution and closure of issues
    • Lead training activities on Quality Procedures, e.g., Compliance, GMP, Audit Prep and GDP
    • Supporting and representing the site during external audits and carrying out Internal Audits
    • Trending and track of quality data to support quality improvements across the business
    • Supporting Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, training, and regulations
    • Perform additional duties at the request of the direct supervisor
