• On completion the Apprentice will have a strong technical aptitude of processing characteristics & parameters for a broad range of polymer materials; they will work cross-functionally with Production Team Leaders/Moulding Managers/Quality/Toolroom /Maintenance Department/ Material Suppliers & external customers to address machine, material, mould, die or tooling issues, including complex tooling assembly & breakdown.

Requirements

• Toolmaking qualification plus time served with a toolmaker producing injection molds
• Previous experience in an injection mold making / mold maintenance environment
• Knowledge of milling, turning, grinding, sparking and fitting
• Ability to weld
• Good knowledge in mold maintenance and experience of supporting a high-volume manufacturing environment
• Previous experience in the manufacture and/or repair/maintenance of the following mold types would be a distinct advantage:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the maintenance of injection molds in the company and compiling standard specifications /procedures for each mold and monitoring all existing molds to standard specifications
• Responsible for, jigs & fixture manufacture, maintenance on the injection molding and ancillary equipment in conjunction with the machine supplier
• Works with the Process Engineers in troubleshooting mold problems
• Attends, schedules and facilitates internal meetings to help establish priorities and assign tasks
• Solves, in conjunction with the Quality department, customer related problems/issues as needed
• In conjunction with approved toolmakers, research new processes and/or systems for maintenance/manufacture of molds and implement new processes and systems as developed under the direction of the Toolroom manager

Job Summary:

Tooling Engineer for new and refurbishment medical tooling programs. This person will help quote and select Vendors for tool build then provide knowledgeable input to the design, track mold build, and procure measurement fixtures. In addition, this person will be responsible for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)/T0 and tune the mold to meet the specifications of the part print. Transitioning the mold to production is to be smooth and thorough.

Knowledge | Experience | Skills

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in plastics industry with emphasis on Medical Molding and mold design improvement.
• Injection molding process knowledge, Mechanical aptitude, leadership, and Project Management skills are required along with good communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
• Two-year degree in an Engineering field is preferred. A four-year Degree is a plus but ability to understand and improve mold and part prints is paramount.

Job Summary

To assist the Engineering/Production department in improving the manufacturing of product and develop the most optimum molding process and tooling and automation that meets or exceeds customer requirements on both new and existing tooling. This person will provide the company with the technical resources to ensure that current and future projects are run in accordance with customer specifications and in-house specifications and standards.

Requirements

• Must have a minimum of a National Diploma in Plastics Engineering (Preferably a Degree in Plastics Engineering) and at least 4-5 years’ experience in the injection molding industry.

• Interprets drawings featuring Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing to identify product inspection requirements.
• Work from written or verbal instructions, detailed engineering drawings, and 3D models.
• Write and edits programs & Inspection routines for CMM’s, CT Scanner, Vision systems and Comparator.
• Identify, design & develop tooling / fixture requirements to facilitate product inspection on CMM / Vision system / Metrology equipment in conjunction with tooling manufacturer.
• Generate FAT / FAI / PD / OQ / PQ reports to support new product qualifications.
• Develop method of “gauge” evaluation to consider, calibration frequencies, gauge life, fit for purpose, etc
• Carry out G R & R studies in Minitab.
• Train QC personnel on use of metrology and best practice when measuring products.
• Maintain the Metrology calibration schedule. Conduct internal calibrations on specific equipment against documented work instruction. Maintains the Calibration database.
• Support Quality Engineers and Process Engineers on continuous improvement projects.
• Serves as technical expert for metrology inspections.
• Maintain and support compliance to ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 systems standards.
• Other responsibilities may be assigned from time to time as needed, based on evolution of the company and the requirements of the department/position.
